Call for Abstracts
The International Association for the Philosophy of Death and Dying will hold an Affiliated Group session at the next Pacific Division Meeting of the American Philosophical Association, scheduled for April 16-20, 2025 in San Francisco. We are soliciting abstracts of around 300 words on a range of topics related to death and dying, including but not limited to
- the metaphysics of death (the conditions for death, possibilities for surviving death, etc).
- attitudes toward death (fear, etc.)
- immortality
- the ethics of killing (suicide, homicide, etc.)
- death’s significance for well-being or meaningfulness in life
- the deaths of others (grief, mourning, memorialization, etc.)
- the moral status of the dead (whether they can be harmed or wronged)
- implications of death-related technologies
Questions and abstracts (along with author’s name, position, institution, and contact information) should be sent to info@philosophyofdeath.org by September 27, 2024. Please write “IAPDD Pacific APA Submission” in the subject of the e-mail. Everyone presenting at the conference must be a member of the APA at the time of presentation and registered for the conference. Abstracts need not be anonymized.
